Eat, Play, Grow Week 5 Recap: “Know Your Veggies”

July 15, 2016 By Salmon Library Staff Leave a Comment

Know Your Veggies
Every kid hates em, every parent does their best airplane impression to get them in, so why is it we’re so afraid of these garden delights? Marii from Salmon Valley Local foods took to work in helping improve the knowledge base from which these kids will use as a foundation in life. Explaining how certain veggies help certain parts of our body function properly. Allowing them to taste freshly picked garden greens as well as wholesome crops from Swift River Farms.

If this weren’t enough the lessons were translated into games, in a rowdy adapted version of duck duck goose with vegetables inserted. Understanding vegetables worth and value is a significant part of any child’s early development and it came as no surprise that this week Marii would be extra passionate about sharing that information. As always a free take home book for all participants was included as well as being followed up by Lemhi After School’s Promise Summer Food program.

Be sure and join us next week in Town Square Park 10:30am-11:30am as we have only two weeks left! Fabulous Fruits is next week followed by the grand finale of “Family Potluck Meal”. This is a wonderful FREE opportunity to get out in the sunshine, get in some activity for the little ones, and even take home some free stuff.
