Innovation For Libraries
Last Thursday we were visited by the Special Project Librarian Action Team (SPLAT). With stations set up they engaged our audience with all sorts of new technologies libraries across Idaho are encouraging their patrons to try. We got a first hand experience to play with them ourselves. We saw Dash & Dot a cute little robot controlled via an iPad app that even the smallest of users could operate. An interesting VR headset used with a smart phone (set on roller coaster mode) almost making me lose my lunch. From Little Bits Robotics to Edison we saw students eyes light up when seeing that libraries can be about more then just books.
We were so fortunate to have been chosen as one of the stops along this journey and will take away a wealth of knowledge hoping to incorporate some of the ideas and different ways to continue to see people walk through our doors.
It was a great day and a lovely reminder that when it comes down to it, a library can be a place where any type of learning happens, and when it does it doesn’t have to be boring!
