Formal & Informal Learning
In an attempt to bridge the gap between informal learning spaces such as Salmon Public Library and formal learning institutions such as schools, Switch has formed a partnership with Fern Waters Charter school in order to do just that. Part of this process is helping provide professional development to teachers and administration on Design Thinking, Maker Centered Learning objectives and goals and finally creating an extended classroom for students who are participating in this project.
During the Spring semester 8th grade students will work with teachers and library staff in order to work on a multi-session project which identifies a unique problem as uncovered by the students in their school, then attempt to solve that problem. This project will span multiple content areas, engaging the learner in a variety of 21 century learning skills.
Take a look at the highlights from our first professional development session! We can’t wait to see how this project evolves.
