Day 2 – Summer of Code, – Heavy lifting. Maybe there is a greater appreciation for the video games one plays after spending time writing lines of codes to create a simple brick structure in Minecraft, maybe not.
What I love about programming is authentic learning happens. For a lot of these students, they haven’t yet had algebra yet, but when they do, they might be able to make a connection to how crucial it is in the real world. Understanding variables and how to manipulate them is the core essence of computer languages. And just maybe those letters on a chalkboard make a little more sense when they get there.
The other highlights include Riva inviting two of her friends to join her in this adventure! (Love this!!) In addition to the number of different parents that have spoken up either via Facebook or in person about their desire to have a child participate in this program or the appreciation for its existence.
Thank you to such a great community who is supportive of other educational opportunities and continues to push us to provide these opportunities.
