LIBRARY EVENT: “Why The West” w/ Local Idaho Authors
Cullen, will be opening with a reading from her new novel-in-progress set in and around the Salmon area, then Winn will read a short story set in Idaho, as well as micro fiction and portions from Western regional writing. Following the reading the authors will facilitate an open a discussion about setting, what makes a Western story Western, and how “Western” means many things to many readers and writers. As well, why regionalism matters in fiction. Q&A to follow.
Tell your friends! Looking forward to seeing you all there!
SEED LIBRARY: “Saving Seeds Event” in Review
The turnout was full of energized, passionate, inquisitive community members who took the opportunity to ask Master Gardner Denise as many questions as time allotted, to which Denise without hesitation answered thoroughly, honestly, and with a smile. It was exactly the type of crowd I would have hoped to show up to an event such as this, ones that actively want to see a Seed Library created, ones that will actively participate in the process of taking, growing, and saving to help bolster a hearty varietal that not only brings greater diversity of food to our area but works within the adaptation of Salmon’s often harsh growing season.
The result of a successful class is one that doesn’t leave. Even after the presentation, discussion was illuminated and electrified amongst members of the community to which perhaps some were meeting for the first time. What can we do? How can we help? A sharing of knowledge to what they already successfully do, leaving me with the hope that we can do this. Salmon can be different then all the other communities to whose Seed Libraries have ultimately failed. We have the power. And when we share seed we are in control.
A big thank you to Denise Durocher for sharing her Seed Saving knowledge with the group. We’re all looking forward to the next event that furthers our education on why seeds are important and why we should all participate in the process of helping Salmon Public Library create a successful launch to the Seed Library.
NEW CHALLENGE: “Design & Execute”
Your goal is to first utilize your design skills. Come up with a tricky, fun, exciting type of maze with the wooden blocks. Then challenge yourself or a friend to program the nearby Edison Robot with the Remote control provided to navigate your way successfully through the maze you just made!
Have fun, explore, be different! There is no right or wrong, just that you tried!
TILT: “Rockets Were All Systems Go”
If you haven’t heard about TILT yet, it’s time you do. Held now on Fridays, when school is off, available to both students and mentors (of any age, skill background) encouraging a healthy facilitation on all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math (STEAM). We are so blessed to have Christian holding down the fort offering great leadership and opportunity to those who join us, but he and the Salmon Public Library are always seeking new faces.
Here are a few highlights from last week’s launch! Hope to see you at TILT soon!
