Below is a list of questions you might have about the Salmon Bookfolk Challenge. Should any of these questions not be yours, please contact us at (208)756-2311 for more info or stop by and show us your smile in person! A FULL List of the Salmon BookFolk Challenge Categories.
What is the Salmon BookFolk Challenge?
Salmon Bookfolk Challenge is a reading challenge for our thirstiest readers. We’re asking you to expand your current reading selections by reading ONE book in each of the categories provided over a set period of time. If you accept this challenge and complete your companion log book you will receive that year’s prize.
2017 RULES: We added two tiers to this challenge. Tier 1: 1 Book from 20 categories (18 if “Trilogy” chosen). Total of 20 Books read. Tier 2: 1 Book from 38 categories. Total of 40 Books read.
You mentioned a companion log book, what's that?
At the time of signing up for the challenge each participant will be given a log book to chart their progress of the books they’ve read in each category. This helps both the reader and the librarian upon the challenge’s conclusion to see if they’ve met their goal.
What if I lose the log book?
Don’t. (all we ask is you be mindful of the hard work put into the logbooks and project, so if you’re not serious about attempting this challenge, leave the log books for people who really want to give it a go.
Do audio books count towards my total?
Yes! We’ve hand selected material in which audio books should be available in each category.
What if I want to read a book that's not on one of your suggested category cards?
Not a problem, bring it up to the front, get it approved by a staff member and read away! The bookmarks are merely suggestions, we’ve done the research for you!
When does the challenge conclude?
The challenge is just short of a year ending on July 1st 2018. The reason for this is it gives us time to calculate the patrons who finished, get them their reward, and think about next year’s new categories!!
Reward?
Relax, you’re reading for the fun of it right? No, each challenge year will end with a personalized item indicated your personal triumph for completing that years challenge.
What's the deal with the board in the vestibule
Great question! This is a motivation board. In the back of each log book will be a set of star stickers. Yep just like the ones you reward your children with for doing a good job, we too will reward you for doing a good job! Upon completion of each category remove a star and place it on the big board in the category you completed. This will hopefully encourage you and other readers to keep up the good work!
Does this challenge cost money to enter?
Nope! It’s just your public library hard at work bringing you engaging activities to stimulate your brain. Should you wish to donate to the challenge, we wouldn’t say no?!
Is there a special prize if I finish first?
Why Yes…yes there is. One you get to be the first. But you also get your VERY own category for next year. In addition you don’t to read that category for that year’s challenge, giving you essentially a free space!!
Where can I find the books for the challenge?
Anywhere really. Although we’ve done a bit of the work for you. There will be a rotating cart display with selected materials already pulled, each with a category card in them. If you take a book please leave the category card with us and don’t take it as a bookmark. Other patrons will want to reference this material and it will be hard if it’s sitting on your coffee table. You can also seek out your own material as well, just get it approved before investing your time in reading it
I'm only a seasonal or live in Salmon part time, can I still participate?
Absolutely! We encourage anyone who has a library card to join the challenge. There are a number of eBooks and audio books online that should help you get through the challenge if you’re traveling or live in another location for part of the year. In fact if you end up doing that, tell us, we’d love to know how far our reach for this challenge gets.
I only found out about this challenge months after it started, can I still join?
Yes! It is open enrollment with no close date, you better stop everything you’re doing and get to reading though!!
