Staff

Staff
These are the individuals that help you out on a daily basis to meet your library needs. Thanks to their constant attention to detail and friendly service, Salmon Public Library functions seamlessly providing the entire Salmon community an opportunity to continue to extend their already existing knowledge base.

Erin Barrett
Erin Barrett is the Youth Programs Coordinator at Salmon Public Library, where she has been a driving force behind innovative and engaging programming for young patrons. With over five years of experience at the library, she has expanded her role to include STEAM programming and leads the library’s free English Language Classes. Beyond the library, Erin also works as a freelance Public Relations and Conflict Resolution specialist.

Erin’s journey into library work began with a Summer Internship Grant through the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL), which opened the door to her passion for community-driven learning. Since then, she has launched several impactful initiatives, including a second day of Storytime to accommodate working families, STEM Week in Lemhi County, and the library’s ESL Program. She is currently spearheading the development of an after-school STEAM Program.

Passionate about lifelong learning and accessibility, Erin sees the Salmon Public Library as a vital hub for connection, growth, and opportunity. She is deeply committed to fostering curiosity, confidence, and creativity through hands-on educational experiences. Whether guiding children through a STEAM activity, helping someone navigate technology, or connecting families with essential resources, Erin thrives on making learning both engaging and accessible.

Among her favorite library moments are those spent leading Storytime, where she has the privilege of watching young readers grow and thrive. She also values the trust she has built within the community, helping ease anxieties about seeking assistance and making the library a welcoming space for all.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys gardening, spending time with her family, and embracing her passion for lifelong learning. A devoted fan of fantasy literature, she considers The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce a personal favorite. In a past chapter of her life, she worked as a ranch hand, riding horses in the Nevada desert—a skill she takes great pride in.

Erin believes the library is more than just books; it’s a place for discovery, creativity, and connection. Her advice to visitors? “Don’t be afraid to explore—whether you’re learning a new skill, diving into a creative project, or simply looking for a cozy spot to read, there’s something here for you. We’re here to support you every step of the way.”

Seth Middlebrook
As Collections Manager, Seth shapes a dynamic and diverse library collection, a role that feels like a natural extension of his lifelong passion for books. Over the past nine years, he has worked in various areas of the library, starting at the circulation desk and gradually moving into cataloging and collections. Whether expanding familiar favorites of the community or introducing readers to something new, he takes pride in curating a collection that sparks curiosity and fosters a love of reading.

Coming from a family of avid readers, he is now raising the next generation of book lovers—though the ever-growing stacks at home suggest he’s running out of shelf space. His TBR list never shrinks, fueled by a love for fantasy, sci-fi and graphic novels, as well as historical and science nonfiction. The best parts of his job include uncovering hidden treasures in donations, the “every day is Christmas” feel of unboxing new arrivals, and the joy of connecting readers with books that leave a lasting impact.

Beyond books, music is another of Seth’s greatest passions. A musician himself, he listens to just about every genre imaginable. From metal and jazz to bluegrass and hip-hop, you never know what you may hear in his office on any given day. Much like his book recommendations, if you ask for music suggestions, you might get a much longer list than you bargained for. Whether through books or music, he enjoys connecting people to ideas, emotions, and experiences that enrich their lives.

Jimmy Ashcom
Jimmy Ashcom serves as the Financial and HR Manager at Salmon Public Library, where he has been an integral part of the team for over a year. Drawn to the library’s deep community involvement, Jimmy was eager to contribute to making it a welcoming and resourceful space for all.

With a strong passion for innovation, Jimmy connects most with the library’s mission to explore new ideas and technologies that enhance services and programs. He recognizes the library’s broad impact on the community, particularly in providing essential technical support and resources that empower patrons.

One of his most memorable experiences at the library was participating in the midway event for the Bookfolk Challenge, where he saw firsthand the excitement and engagement of participants in a themed environment. He also wishes more people knew about the extensive behind-the-scenes work—by both staff and volunteers—that ensures patrons have access to the best books, programs, and services.

Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys fishing, hiking, playing guitar, reading, boating on the river, and cooking. A dedicated fantasy reader, he counts The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne as his current favorite series.

Jimmy plays a crucial role in keeping the library running smoothly, overseeing finances, payroll, and human resources. He is always happy to assist staff and community members alike, ensuring that the library remains a thriving and innovative hub for learning and connection.

Kathy Batterton
Kathy has been a dedicated member of the Salmon Public Library’s circulation desk team since September 2024. A lifelong lover of books and reading, she was naturally drawn to working in libraries, where she enjoys helping patrons discover new authors and resources that spark their love for reading.

Beyond her role at the circulation desk, Kathy has played an active part in expanding the library’s adult programming. She has helped create engaging workshops and classes, providing enriching experiences for community members. She strongly believes in the library’s mission to foster learning and discovery and is passionate about making the library a welcoming space for all.

Kathy particularly enjoys participating in adult programming events, where she gets to see patrons connect with new ideas and opportunities. One of her favorite aspects of working at the library is witnessing the positive impact it has on the community. She wishes more people knew just how many resources the library offers beyond books—from creative workshops to community events.

Outside of the library, Kathy enjoys tending to her garden and micro farm. She is also a talented artist, often painting and drawing outdoors to capture the beauty of nature. As an avid reader, she appreciates a wide variety of books, but one of her cherished childhood favorites is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A fun and unexpected fact about Kathy is that she holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance and plays the bassoon!

Her advice to library visitors: “Don’t be afraid to try something new! The library is full of resources and opportunities just waiting to be explored. Whether it’s a new author, a creative workshop, or a community event, there’s something here for everyone.”

Taylor Riggan
Taylor is a Circulation Desk Clerk at Salmon Public Library, having joined the team in September 2024. After taking time off as a stay-at-home mom, Taylor decided to return to the workforce and found that the library was the perfect fit. She quickly fell in love with the role and enjoys being part of a team that works collaboratively to serve the community. Taylor takes pride in assisting patrons with a variety of needs, from recommending books to offering technical support and conducting research. She finds great satisfaction in knowing that even small interactions can make a significant impact on someone’s life.

In addition to her day-to-day responsibilities, Taylor manages the library’s website and Facebook page, ensuring that the community stays up to date on new books, upcoming events, and library programs. She also creates and distributes the library’s monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed.

Taylor believes that the library plays an essential role in the community, offering not only books but also valuable resources, technology, and knowledge. She is particularly passionate about helping patrons discover these resources and making sure they are aware of all the library has to offer. One of her favorite moments at the library is seeing the positive impact her work has on others, and she wishes more people knew just how many services and programs the library provides.

Outside of work, Taylor enjoys outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, and gardening. She has a strong love for nonfiction history books but, thanks to her role at the library, has expanded her reading interests into various genres. Her ever-growing TBR (To Be Read) list is a source of excitement, and she loves sharing her passion for books with her young son, Valentine. Together, they read 5-6 books each night, and Valentine is even starting his own TBR list.

Taylor’s advice to library visitors is simple: “Just ask! You never know what we can provide, find, or recommend. Our team is a wealth of information, and we’d love to help!”

John Nöh
John Nöh has been the backbone of our janitorial and maintenance department since early 2024. He works tirelessly to keep our building and grounds in top-notch condition, ensuring the library remains a welcoming and functional space for everyone.

A true master fixer, John is always finding ways to improve efficiency and solve problems. He’s quick to lend a hand to patrons, especially when it comes to unloading large book donations. His love for working outdoors makes him an enthusiastic snow shoveler, and he takes great pride in keeping our space looking its best.

Beyond his work, John enjoys reading and listening to audiobooks—especially science fiction. And of course, as he likes to joke, “Sometimes, I change light bulbs.”

We’re lucky to have John on our team!
