LIBRARY RECAP: “Let’s Talk About It – The Women of Brewster Place”

February 28, 2017 By Salmon Library Staff Leave a Comment

Back to School!
On Thursday February 23rd we went back to school. Not in that boring kinda sit and hopefully learn something way, but in an invigorating, refreshing manner in which our brains were once again re-engaged. Helen Bertram hit the chalk board as we the library hit the interweb. Simultaneously we were broadcasting the talk LIVE via our Facebook page for those that couldn’t attend in person. As Helen so elegantly navigated her way through character deconstruction, to thematic storylines, we did so finding many ways in which upon to improve this new feature of technology within the library.

The group seemed to respond to Helen’s methods of breakdown of this novel despite the overall consensus of it’s depressing nature. Riling up debate, asking the participants to think a bit deeper as well as reflecting on the current state of how we view our own social affairs with regards to the story. What was Helen’s first LTAI presentation, no one would have been the wiser as she seemed like a seasoned professional. By night’s end I could feel that the room went on a journey. They came away with a better more emotional attachment to a book they would not normally have picked up, and had they picked it up, most likely have put it down after the first depressing story. So thank you Helen and thank you to the those who could join us in person.

We’ll be looking to tweak some FB issues as well as unveiling our new PA system for those in attendance to better hear each other for the NEXT “Let’s Talk About it Discussion” EMPIRE FALLS by Richard Russo happens on March 23rd 7:00PM at the Salmon Public Library. Copies are available now!
