LIBRARY UPDATE: “Testing a successful model”

August 15, 2017 By Salmon Library Staff Leave a Comment

Slide Prototypes Done!
Last Monday’s Maker class we started to TEST our designs. First we needed to build our Cardboard prototypes for slides and understand what a successful model looked like. Giving the students certain goals and constraints to fall within they attempted their design. They needed to fulfill the goal of getting the object to slide down the slide safely between 3-5mi/hr. To be able to understand this concept they needed to measure and convert their scale models from ft/sec to mi/hr. Secondly they needed to make sure they had the appropriate angle of entry into the pool. And finally the path needed to remain consistent for each launch, ensuring safety from the user. We had a great time building, testing, re-designing. Checkout what we have in-store for next week’s IMPROVE class on August 28th 11am-12pm to see how we can turn this real world model’s into 3D printed designs.
