Libraries Rock....Geodes
We ate thanks to Lemhi’s After School Promise Summer Food Program. We listened thanks to volunteer Alexis Rodriguez. And we ROCKED, thanks to the Salmon Rock Hounds Allen Marquette. Salmon Public Library took a literal approach to our first Summer Reading Program of the season on the theme “Libraries Rock”. And ROCK we did! Rock painting for the little ones while Allen showed off a diamond encrusted saw to splice the children’s geodes in two. Not to mention the array of microscopes around the room showcasing interesting rock formations. It was a great presentation which led to my favorite part, one of the youth attending coming into the library hours later that day with mom asking me as the “Librarian”, “Do you have any books on Crystals?” YES!!! Hands on, self discovery, engaging programming can directly lead to literacy! Needless to say there wasn’t a face without a smile after today. How cool is that?! We’re so thankful to all our wonderful volunteers, program coordinators, children wranglers, readers, food providers, and the list goes on that make these wonderful events happen
