I can’t believe Day 1 Summer of Code – Python is in the books!
Switch, Salmon Public Library’s division of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) specific programming geared to bring more opportunity to the community of Salmon, hosted the first of a five-day boot camp for interested youth ages 11-16.
Never before did I think that we’d be teaching python coding language on Raspberry Pi‘s when this adventure began. But here we are and a full class to boot!
The day was highlighted by the unboxing of their Raspberry Pi 4’s supplied by CanaKit. After the initial setup, installing the operating system, the youth got to type their first line of code. Can you guess what it was?
If you said, “Hello World!” you were correct! Can’t have a programming class without that being the first line of code you learn.
Looking forward to a week of exploration, discovery, and fun. Next up on the agenda, Minecraft buildings!
Huge thanks to Mike Albrecht of Computer Zen for brining his passion for computer programming to Salmon and Patty & Steve for supplying 10 new monitors to make this program happen! What a great community.
